In common ship unloaders operations where ship unloader with vertical beam and continuous unloading processes are used, it happens that the machine operator collides with the hatch or hatch cover of the vessel. This causes severe damage to the vessel and the unloader. The unloading operation will be impaired by these incidents and result in delays and, of course, unwanted costs.
The LaseCAU-ML – Collision Avoidance system for Unloaders uses four multi layer scanners mounted around the vertical beam of the unloader.
3D multi-layer scanners have several 2D scan planes coming from one source. The four scanners used for this application have got 64 scan planes, each with 90° vertical opening angle. All layers of each scanner have a general 360 degree scan plane. During operation, each scanner can detect the hatch of the vessel as well as the folding hatches when a vessel with folding hatch types will be unloaded.
Functionalities :
- Detection of hatches in operation area (rims and edges) to prevent collision between hatch and vertical beam
- Determine the clearance between vertical beam and hatch cover
- Detection of folded hatch covers of vessels with this type of hatch cover
- Data hand over of detected hatch and hatch cover to generate, slow-downs, alarms or emergency stops.
- Parameter adjustment – Default of allowances of clearance between vertical beam and hatch or hatch cover.
- Collision avoidance in Z-axis
- System should give an alarm when scanners are obstructed
