2018 truck collision at Maules Creek Mine: lessons learnt from investigations
On April 21, 2018, a 500-ton haul truck and the 100-ton service vehicle the worker was operating crashed at the mine, causing significant injuries.
The service truck employee sustained injuries to his wrist, shoulder, and back.
There was significant damage to the service truck. The 43-year-old operator, a labour hire worker, sustained severe injuries in the collision.
After being flown to the hospital by helicopter, the injured worker received medical attention. With a payload capacity of 296 tonnes and a gross vehicle weight of 500 tonnes, the Hitachi haul truck is among the biggest rigid-frame trucks utilised in mines in New South Wales.
