Before mining begins in a new area, the topsoil is removed for later use in the final stage of reclaiming the mined land. The overburden, necessary to reach the phosphate layer, is then excavated and repurposed to fill areas where mining has concluded.
Once the mining of a block is completed, it undergoes topographical shaping and is covered with the stored topsoil. The reclamation area’s surface is carefully shaped and designed to slow runoff, creating microclimate conditions beneficial for local flora and fauna.
