Often when people see mining as disruptive to the environment. However, what people are not aware of, mine closure and rehabilitation is part of mining as mining companies mine responsibly. This is a great example showing mine closure and rehabilitation process.
Victor Mine is a remote fly-in/fly-out mine located in the James Bay Lowlands of Northern Ontario, approximately 90km west of the coastal community of Attawapiskat First Nation. In operation from 2008-2019, Victor was an open pit mine and Ontario’s first diamond mine. The site is now in closure and rehabilitation.
The Victor mine closure reclamation activities include:
– Reclamation of all disturbed areas.
– General clean-up.
– Salvage and disposition of material stored in various lay-down yards.
– Decommissioning, demolition and disposition of all infrastructures as directed by De Beers Canada inc. (DBCI).
