Practicing mine design in the virtual world provides a fast and fail-friendly environment to learn about the impacts of mine layout. The ViMine mine design experience was created for the UNSW School of Minerals and Energy Resources Engineering to educate and test their students by immersing them into a virtual sandbox. Students need to work together as a team to decide on infrastructure placement, road paths, dump sizing, pipe layout, and more, for a given landscape scenario. It is a great (and enjoyable) test where they bring together years of learning into a creative design assessment.
Today this is commonly used in universities to teach students about the world of mining.
